Misconception About Exercise

I see it on TV and hear it on the radio all the time. The craze about losing weight and not having to exercise to achieve results. Exercise has gotten a bad rap. People want that instant gratification but aren't willing to do a little work. "Little" being the key word here. America has gotten so lazy that even the thought of having to actually get up off their duff to do something makes them not do anything. The same is true with fixing something to eat. No one wants to cook any more. I prefer to do my own cooking, that way I know exactly whats in what I'm eating. You can save so much money by putting in a little effort you'd be surprised.
You don't have to bust your buns working out to the point of exhaustion every day. I heard about a woman who did one minute of push-ups and lost 7 pounds in the first month. She didn't change her eating habits just a little effort each morning. Exercise does not have to be work. It can be going for a bike ride with the kids around the block for starters then around town. Think of the money you'll save in gas by doing some of the little errands that are close to home. If you're one of the millions who are trying to save the earth think of the smog you won't be putting into air. Then there is the quality time you would be spending with your kids.
If you think about it, exercise is nothing more than moving around. If you work in an office for instance you can use an exercise ball instead of a chair at your desk. It will promote better posture which will burn more calories which will help you lose weight with-out even thinking about it. I drive and deliver packages all day and actually saw a woman working at her desk sitting on one of those exercise balls. So don't tell me it can't be done. Other sources of exercise is taking the stairs instead of the elevator. I see people taking walks on their lunch hours all the time. Even at the 15 minute coffee breaks you can do some curls in one hand and drink your water or whatever in the other then switch off and do the same thing.
Once you start you'll be surprised at how fast the weight will come off. Make it a date. Get your wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend kids involved too. It's a proven fact that if you exercise with a partner you get better results. You end up pushing each other without thinking about it. There is a coffee house I go to on the weekends and a group of people meet there every Saturday and go for a run or a brisk walk. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise as long as it's done with purpose, like trying to get to an appointment and you're running a little late. It doesn't mess up your knee joints and you burn almost as many calories as a slow jog. After eating is a perfect time to walk, it helps you digest your food, increases your metabolism so even after you are finished walking your body keeps on burning those calories.
Some of the most basic movements that is exercise include taking the stairs, walking, playing. Make exercise fun! Competition is a great form of getting exercise. Playing tennis, racquetball, throwing the football or baseball back and forth. How about badminton, my wife and I do that without a net and believe me it gets competitive and fun. Dancing!! When was the last time you saw a fat dancer? Remember when you were kids jumping rope was fun. Jumping rope has multi-purposes, it's great cardio, less stressful on the knee joints and promotes timing. You don't have to do tricks to get the benefits of jumping rope just try to see how long you can do it without stopping.
If you want to exercise and want to make it a routine just remember the human body has a way of adapting to it's environment. If you do the same thing on a routine basis your body will get used to it and will start conserving energy and storing fat. Keep your body guessing. Do something different on a weekly basis. One week do cardio then switch the next week with weight training. The next week do a little of both, cardio and weight training and so on. This way your body will keep burning those calories and won't get used to a routine, and you won't get bored doing the same thing every day either.
Something else you can do if you want to focus on a certain part of your body is to do only one exercise that you think is working a particular part of your body. When you feel the effects of that particular exercise you will know for certain exactly what part of the body it really works. If you are not used to weight lifting you should start out slow. Doing too much too fast will make you hurt in places you didn't know existed. Believe me I've done it more than once. Don't be discouraged though, use the pain to find out just what part of your body is getting worked. Keep a journal too so you don't forget, and build on that knowledge to come up with a workout that suits your life style and your time schedule. Remember it's your time, use it to your benefit and live well!
